Grief Support Groups

Six weeks. A small group.

People who understand.

You don’t have to do this on your own

One of the hardest parts of losing someone is how alone it makes you feel.

Not the missing them. That is its own thing. I mean everything around it. The way conversations move on. The way people stop asking after the first few weeks. The way you learn to say "I’m doing all right" because it is easier than the truth.

A grief support group is a room where you don’t have to do that.

I run these groups myself. Small, online, six weeks, the same people every time. Nobody in that room needs you to be further along than you are.

What to Expect in a Group

What actually happens in the sessions

We meet online for 90 minutes. I welcome everyone, then we start with a theme for the week. Something to give the conversation a shape so nobody is staring at a blank screen.

Then people talk.

Some weeks it is stories about the person you lost. Some weeks it is entirely practical. What to do about a birthday coming up. How to answer when someone at work asks how you are. Some weeks someone cries, and the rest of us sit with them, and nobody tries to fix it.

You will never be put on the spot. If you want to come and listen for six weeks without saying much, that is fine. It happens more than you would think, and listening does its own work.

I close every session properly and provide something for you to try between the sessions.

Ongoing Support Beyond Meetings

Support doesn’t stop when the group session ends.

At GrieveWell, the connection doesn't stop when the session ends. Between meetings you'll have access to:

  • WhatsApp group chat: Stay connected with fellow members of our support groups, share reflections, and reach out on tough days.
  • Direct access to Matt: You can message privately if you need reassurance, have questions about grief support, or simply want to be heard.
  • Grief Support UK Facebook page: Join a wider community of thousands who share encouragement, solidarity, and reflections every day.

This ongoing support ensures you’re never left alone with your grief between sessions.

THE PRACTICAL DETAILS

 • How long it runs: Six weeks, with the same group all the way through

• Each session: 90 minutes, once a week

• Where: Online, so you can join from anywhere in the UK

• Group size: Up to six people

• Cost: £60 for all six sessions

Joining a group

Next Groups begin Wednesday Evening, 9th Sept and Friday Morning 11th Sept.

New groups start regularly, usually every few weeks. I run both daytime and evening ones, so there is normally something that fits around work or family.

There is no fixed timetable, because I build the days around the people who are waiting.

So the simplest thing is to let me know you are interested. Fill in the form below, tell me whether daytime or evening suits you better, and I will come back to you within 24hrs with the dates of the next one for you to consider.

BETWEEN SESSIONS

The week in between

A week is a long time when you are grieving.

So the group carries on between sessions. There is a WhatsApp group for everyone in your group. It is there for the days when something knocks you sideways and you want to say so to people who will understand without explanation and also discuss that weeks session.

You can also message me directly. If you need a reply, you will get one.

And you are welcome in the wider GrieveWell community on Facebook, where thousands of people are further along, further back, and everywhere in between.

Is a group the right thing for you?

A group tends to help if:

  • You feel like the only person still carrying this
  • You are tired of managing other people’s discomfort about your loss
  • You want to hear from people who understand without you having to explain first
  • You would rather not be the centre of attention, but you do not want to be on your own with it either

A group might not be the right thing right now if:

  • Your loss is very recent and you are still in the fog of the first few weeks. There is no rush. The groups will still be here.
  • You think you would find it hard to hear other people’s losses alongside your own. One-to-one coaching may suit you better, and I am happy to talk that through with you.
  • You are in crisis. If you are struggling to keep yourself safe, a support group is not the right first step. Please speak to your GP, or call Samaritans free on 116 123, any time of the day or night.

These groups offer companionship, practical tools and shared experience. They are not clinical treatment. If what you need is therapy, I will say so, and I will help you find it.

Cost: about the £60

Six sessions works out at £10 a week.

I have kept it there deliberately. High enough that people commit and turn up, low enough that it is not the reason somebody stays away.

If it is the reason you would stay away, tell me. Put it in the form below or message me. We will sort something out, and I will not make it awkwar

How to join

Here is exactly what happens after you send the form.

I will reply to you within two working days with the dates of the next group. I will answer anything you want to ask, and if you would like a short chat first we can do that. Plenty of people would rather not, and that is completely fine. There is no interview.

If it feels right, I will send you the payment link and everything you need to join. If it does not feel right, that is a perfectly good outcome too.
